Greetings Everyone

Hello all,

I had a conversation recently with a person who grew up in a Christian home and now is married with three kids of his own. We were conversing about some of the challenges of raising kids and discipling them into the fear and the knowledge of the Lord. We reflected on the ways that we both had been brought up in the church, and we both wished that we had been given the opportunity to know more about a system of theology. You see, knowing Bible stories is important, but how do they all fit together? We know that Paul writes to churches, but what exactly makes up a church? Who should be in charge, is it necessary anyway?
Systems of theology help us understand how all our Bible knowledge comes together. It is kind of like flesh and muscles and tendons are all the Bible stories (Biblical theology) and verses we know, and systematic theology is the bones on which all soft tissue hangs. Both need each other to make a fully functional body. My friend made an interesting observation when he told me that certain churches in the Flathead valley do a good job at attracting people who wouldn’t normally come to church, while others do a good job at this or that, but not many churches do a good job at equipping people with a system of theology that helps them actually grow as disciples. Would it not be great if we could be a bit of both! While we may need to work on areas of our church, I certainly want to be a church that not only makes disciples, but matures disciples as well.
Part of the maturation process is the hard work of building bones, structures, on which to grow. To that end, this Sunday we will have our Adult Sunday School located in the prayer chapel to the right of the sanctuary when you walk in the main doors. For the next several weeks we will be focusing on the principles of the presbyterian church guided by our theology and our history.  We will have a syllabus ready for you if you would like to participate or you can email [email protected] and I will send you one myself.
Now you might be new to church in general, new to First Presbyterian Church in Whitefish, or you might be a long time member. Either way, you are invited to hear, discuss, and be reminded about the system of belief and the history of that system in the Presbyterian church. All questions are welcomed, and critiques as well!
BEN MELLI

As the joyous season of Christmas draws to a close, we invite you to join us for one final act of fellowship – the annual “un-decking” of our Sanctuary and Fellowship Hall. Our beautiful Christmas decorations have blessed us throughout this holy season, and now it’s time to carefully store them away until next year.

When: Sunday, January 5th, after worship (Epiphany Sunday, which marks the traditional end of the Christmas season)

We need helping hands of all ages to:

  • Carefully remove ornaments and candles
  • Pack away our cherished Nativity scenes
  • Take down wreaths and garlands
  • Store everything safely for next Christmas

Coffee, tea, and light refreshments will be provided after worship by our Deacons. Remember – many hands make light work, and this is a wonderful opportunity for fellowship as we transition into the new year.

“To everything there is a season…” (Ecclesiastes 3:1)

Thank you for helping us preserve our beautiful Christmas traditions!
