Greetings Everyone
Hello all,
My wife and I had a conversation when we were going through the process of buying our house regarding insurance. When fire insurance was brought up we asked ourselves what we would grab first if a fire broke out at our house and all people were safely outside. It was really a discussion of values, or what we value most. First, we understood that our family and pets were of utmost importance to us. Then we started to think about our material things like important files, clothes, books, pictures and the like. We settled that in our modern day we would probably look for our phones, (oh yeah, we always have them in our pockets), and then our computers, which have all the documents and pictures on them anyway. The point is we all value certain things more than others. While some personality types may lend themselves to objective detachment from material things or people, everyone values something over the other.
So what is that for Christians living in the community we call the Church? Do our values align with what God values? We may say sometimes, or we may respond with asking ourselves, “Does that even matter?” For a Christians, following Jesus in a life of discipleship means our values will change over time. What we find most important changes from our own interest in growing our own kingdoms to seeking His Kingdom. It is a work of the Holy Spirit. In the next several weeks I want to spend some time looking at and being reminded of what values of the values of the King and His Kingdom. This week we’ll look at the value of His Word, especially in Psalm 119. I would encourage you to read the whole Psalm, it is long! We will focus on only a part of it on Sunday. Like Spring cleaning for our hearts, let us be reminded about what we need to find most important as we abide in Jesus.
