Greetings Everyone
Hello all,
Every Sunday Christians gather together to celebrate the Sabbath. Our cultural calendar is scheduled around weekdays and weekends, but for Christians Sunday is a day of rest. That is what “Sabbath” means, rest. God worked and then rested. Why did God need to rest? Does God get tired? Bored? Lazy? Of course not! So, why this constructed rhythm with which He created the world? What is God telling us about himself and does that have any bearing on mankind? On Sunday we will look to Genesis 2:1-3 as we focus on the seventh day in God’s created order. Mankind is not the capstone of God’s final day, (as much as we’d like to believe we are) nor is creating more material gain, (as much as our economy would like us to believe it is) rather it is “Sabbath”. One of the greatest witnesses to the Lord that we can have in our cultural moment, and for the good of our own souls, is to resist the hollow trappings of self gratification, self promotion, and self service. How? By corporate worship, giving up of our time, giving up of “self”, to look beyond our material gifts to the Giver. We will find our true rest only when we rest in the work our Savior has completed on our behalf.
